Make it automatic.  This is so easy to do, and you won’t miss the money, but, you will be less stressed about “being broke”:  have a specific amount deducted from your paycheck, or checking account each month and put it into a special savings account set up just for this fund.  I started doing this in 1994 originally for my son’s college tuition.  Now it contains the funds to help pay for his upcoming wedding in June.  I will continue to contribute to this savings account and build up my cash reserves.  I might even pay cash for my next car!  What a great feeling!!  When I started, I was putting in $100/month, but have increased it over the years.  Even if it’s only $25/month, over time it adds up.
